Producer. A producer or autotroph usually produces its own food via photosynthesis; a chemical process which captures the radiant energy of the sun and uses to convert carbon dioxide and water, into glucose and oxygen. Producers form the base of every food web, as heterotrophs or consumers are dependent on them for food.
