living cells expire.most of the plants largely take co2 and release o2 during the day.

It is C4 plant or CAM plant that close their stomata to conserve water in dry and hot days. Hence donot release O2 and respire CO2. But they make their CO2 by combining their O2 inside with rubisco enzyme.
