P = 5 KN = 5000N

 σ = 100MN/m2 = 100N/mm2

 Let D be the diameter of the wire

We know that,  σ = P/A

σ = P/ (Π/4 × D2)

100 = 5000/ (Π/4 × D2)

D  = 7.28
