Given: Load = 1 kN,  area = 0.8 cm²,  length = 10 cm.

To find: The stress developed in the bar?

Solution:

  • As we have given that the force is acting on the cross- sectional area, so we do not require the length of the bar, which is already given.
  • Now, we know the formula of stress, which is :

                Stress = Force / Area

  • Putting the values in the formula we get:

                Stress = 1 kN / 0.8 cm²

  • Converting all values to standard form, we get:

                Stress = 1000 N / 80 mm²

               Stress = 12.5 N / mm²

Answer:

            So, the stress developed in the bar is 12.5 N / mm².
