A local bus is carrying 40 passengers,some with 50 paise ticket and the remaining
Rs 1.50 tickets. If the total reciepts from these passengers is rs 32, find the number of passengers with 50 paise ticket.

Let the number of passengers with 50 Paise (0.5 Rupee) tickets be x.
Then, number of passengers with 1.50 Rupee tickets would be (40 - x)
According to question,
0.5x + 1.5(40 - x) = 32
⇒ 0.5x + 60 - 1.5x = 32
⇒ -x + 60 = 32
⇒ x = 28
∴ Number of passengers with 50 Paise tickets is 28.
