 Let the number of passengers with 50 Paise (0.5 Rupee) tickets be x. Then, number of passengers with 1.50 Rupee tickets would be (40 - x)  According to question, 0.5x + 1.5(40 - x) = 32 ⇒ 0.5x + 60 - 1.5x = 32 ⇒ -x + 60 = 32 ⇒ x = 28 ∴ Number of passengers with 50 Paise tickets is 28.

Answer:

the answer is 28 passengers have 50 paise ticket

here are the steps:

total no: of passengers=40

total amount=Rs 32 or 3200 paise

denominations                 no: of tickets             total amount

50 paise                                      x                             50x

Rs1.5 or 150paise                  40-x                         150(40-x)

 required equation

50x+150(40-x)=3200

50x+6000-150x=3200

-100x=3200-6000

-100x=-2800

'-'symbole cuts out

x=2800/100

x=28
