A long distance train is scheduled to reach its destination in 19 hours. After 10 hours of journey, due to disruption of rail traffic, the train has to be stationed for 1 hour. If the average speed of the train is 100 km/hr at what speed should it travel to cover the same amount of time?

The average speed of the train is given 100 km/hr.

Thus in 19 hr, the total distance should be covered;

Total distance = 19 x 100 = 1900 km

After 10 hr, total distance covered = 10 x 100 = 1000 km

Distance remaining to cover = (1900 - 1000) = 900 km

As the train was stationed 1 hr,

Total time spent = 10 + 1 =11 hr

If the remaining distance has to be covered in same amount of time, the time remaining = (19 - 11) = 8 hr

Thus the required speed = (remaining distance / remaining time)

= (900 / 8) = 112.5 km/hr.
