early people made such paintings as they related everything with themselves and drew paintings of their daily routines. they drew paintings of hunting animals as they did it themselves. they were also made for the future generations to learn the art which they occupied.

No one knows the actual purpose
But hey were probably a way of communication since humans didn't know how to write at the time.
Or recordings to teach the younger generations. As for depiction of animals being hunted, they could be showing hunting techniques or describing what animals could be hunted for food.
Maybe even to show that they were superior to other animals or just depicting their hunting
