We got an excellent structure. States formed based on languages and customs.
We should give more autonomy to set more specific laws, taxation etc. Then the state which has better government will grow better.
The growth of a state will instill competitiveness. The people will vouch for better government. Good schemes introduced by the winning state will be introduced by others as well.

At present center sets policiehs and laws taking account of entire population of India.
If states given more autonomy,
A state having more illiterates can spend more money for education
A state having population explosion can take measures to control it
A state having good man power can focus on industrialisation
Common, if there is a healthy competition among states, becoming a developed nation will no longer a dream
