Answer:

3.75 m

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the depth of the lake be 'x' m.

Given that flower is 1/2 metres above the surface of the lake.

So, length of stem = x + 1/2 m.

Given, distance = 2 m.

By Pythagoras theorem, we get

⇒ (x + 1/2)² = x² + 2²

⇒ x² + 1/4 + x = x² + 4

⇒ x + (1/4) = 4

⇒ (4x + 1) = 16

⇒ 4x = 15

⇒ x = 15/4

⇒ x = 3.75 m.

Therefore, depth of the lake = 3.75 m.

Hope it helps!

Let, the depth of the lake be 'x' in metres.

So, The flower is 1/2 metres above the surface.

Length of the stem = x + 1/2

And given that, the flower droops at a distance of 2 metres from base.

 {\mathfrak {\pink {-:Pythagoreas \: theorem :-}}}

(x + 1/2)^2 = x^2 + 2^2

Or, x^2 + 1/4 + x = x^2 + 4

Or, x = x^2 + 4 - x^2 - 1/4

Or, x = 4 - 1/4

Or, x = 15/4

Or, x = 3.75

➡️ <b>Hence, the depth of the lake is 3.75 metres. </b >
