Step-by-step explanation:

Given

a lump composed of gold and silver measures 6 cubic cm weighs 100 gm. If a cubic cm of gold weighs 20 gm and an equal volume of silver weighs 12 g. Find the weight of gold in the mixture.

  • Average weight per cubic cm = 100/6 gram
  • Gold per cubic cm = 20 gram
  • Silver per cubic cm = 12 gram
  • The ratio of gold and silver in a lump using Alligation method = 7 : 5
  • Therefore gold is 7/12 x 6 cu cm
  •                          = 3 1/2 cu cm
  • Now weight of gold in the lump = 3 1/2  x 20 = 70 grams
