Heya friend!!
Here is your answer,
Well firstly what is a mechanical wave?
DEFINITION: A wave is a travelling disturbance that transfers energy through a medium from one place to another.
Now there are two types of mechanical waves:
1) Longitudinal wave 2) Transverse wave.
Now,
1) Longitudinal wave:
A longitudinal wave is a wave in which particles of the medium move in a direction parallel to the direction that the wave moves.
2) Transverse wave :
A transverse wave is a wave in which particles of the medium move in a direction perpendicular to the direction that the wave move.
Hope it helps you,
Thank you.

A mechanical wave is a wave that is an oscillation of matter, and therefore transfers energy through a medium. While waves can move over long distances, the movement of the medium of transmission—the material—is limited. Therefore, the oscillating material does not move far from its initial equilibrium position.
