Given : plant growth follows an interesting mathematical pattern

on the day 1 the plants height increase by 1 dm

on the day 2 the plants height increase by 2 dm

on day 3 the plants height increases by 3 dm

on the day 4 the plants height increase by 4 dm

To find :  based on this pattern the height of the plant at the end of the ninth day will be

Solution:

Plant height increase

Day 1 = 1

Day 2 = 2

Day 3 = 3

Day 9 = 9

This is an AP  with first term = 1  ,

last term = 9

number of term = 9

Sum = (9/2)(1 + 9)  = 45

Hence the height of the plant at the end of the ninth day will be  45 dm
