A type of reaction in which a more reactive metal displace a less reactive metal from its salt solution is called displacement reaction.
Here magnesium is more reactive than copper so that's why it displace copper from its salt solution and change the colour of solution. Mg + cuso4 --------- mgso4+ cu.
