A magnet is in the form of a bar. Initially, the axis of the bar magnet is along the x-axis. At some distance from the magnet, a coil is kept in the y-z plane with its center along the x-axis. Which of the following motions of the bar magnet will NOT induce an electric current in the coil?

If the bar magnet is kept stationary then no current be induced in the coil.

Explanation:

  • As the north pole is moved towards the coil, the magnetic field will increase in the direction of motion.
  • By Fleming's right-hand rule we can say that the current will be in an anti-clockwise direction.
  • As the direction of the motion of the magnet is viewed from outside it shows that the current is only induced when the direction of motion of bar magnet changes.
  • If it is kept stationary then no current will be induced.

Answer:

Correct option: (b) The bar magnet axis is turned to make an acute angle with the X-axis and the magnet is rotated about X-axis with the south pole fixed on X-axis.
