A magnet remains steady in North South direction since south pole of the earth's magnet is in the geographical north and north pole of the earth's magnet is in the geographical south.
since opposite poles attract each other hence magnet is steady in north south pole.

Dear student,
● Answer -
A magnet remains steady in a 'north-south' direction.
● Explanation -
- Earth itself behaves as a magnet with a north & south pole (which are different from geographical poles.)
- As opposite poles of magnet attract each other physical magnet gets stabilized in north-south direction.
- North pole of physical magnet rather represents south pole of earth magnet & vice versa.
Hope this helped you.
