It may deflect the needle on the compass. If the wire is running in the direction of the earth' s field AND the compass is above or below the wire, the needle will be deflected by up to 90 degrees one way or the other, depending on the direction of current in the wire. This depends on the direction of the current

Heya!!! if the magnetic compass is placed near a current carrying conductor then they are certain deflections occurred that is a magnetic field lines are formed through which north pole would move but they are certain conditions for magnetic field lines that is if it is straight current carrying conductor then magnetic field lines are Co-centric in nature and there center lie in the wire and if it circular then it is from every where ...hope it helps ♡♡all the best for ur future and have a nice day. .
