A magnetised needle just experience a torque because it is magnetised. But an iron nail (magnetic substance)when brought in the vicinity of a magnet aquires magnetic properties, developing an opposite pole . For example if the south pole of magnet is towards nail a north pole is developed or induced and vice versa. Since unlike poles attract each other , therefore the naill gets attracted.
