magnitude of resultant is 11.408 and tan-¹(0.8231) angle made with X - axis.

given, |A| = 5m direction along x - axis

in vector form ⇒ A = 5 i

|B| = 8m direction 65° from positive x - axis.

in vector form ⇒B = 8(cos65° i + sin65° j)

= 8 × (0.4226) i + 8 × (0.9063) j

= 3.3808 i + 7.2504 j

from vector addition, R = A + B [see figure ]

= 5i + 3.808 i + 7.2504 j

= 8.808 i + 7.2504 j

magnitude of R = √{(8.808)² + (7.2504)²}

= 11.408

direction of R = tan-¹(7.2504/8.808) = tan-¹(0.8231) with x- axis.
