A major bus mishap took place on the Nicholas road in Nungambakkam area of Chennai yesterday around 4 in the evening. The incident took place when a speeding truck hit the bus carrying forty passengers which was moving from Nicholas road towards the Barahkhamba road. The truck driver lost control over the vehicle that led to the hit and the strike was so hard that it completely damaged the front part of the bus. However, the bus driver was somehow able to prevent the bus from going into the trench and saved the passengers' lives. The good news coming out is 'no fatalities have been discovered' yet a number of people have seriously been injured by the accident that included the bus driver, conductor, and many of the passengers. Some other people who were driving behind the bus also got affected by the accident and had minor injuries. The police team and ambulance was called on time. The police registered the case against the truck driver and the victims had been taken to the GTB hospital.

Nungambakkam,Chennai on March 2, 2011. A number of passengers were seriously injured on
Tuesday around 2pm after the driver of the bus (CH04-G-6639) lost control and the bus went off
the road and met with an accident. There were 53 passengers in the bus. They were returning
from a three-day trip to Igatpuri in Masna. The accident occurred after the bus had crossed
Kasara ghat. The driver, Abdul Khan, fled from the spot after the mishap. The bus tyre had burst.
It was passersby and locals along with the police who pulled out the passengers from the bus.
The injured were rushed to the near-by Government Hospital. Luckily there were no causalities.
Some of the injured were discharged after giving first aid. According to the information collected
from the eye witnesses "It was after the bus had crossed the ghat that the driver lost control and
the bus met with an accident. Its front tyre had burst. The driver soon absconded from the site.
Police is investigating whether the tyre burst before or after the accident. He will be booked
under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of
others) of Motor Vehicle Act and section 184 of Indian Penal Code."
