Male honey  bees are born from unfertilised  eggs, whereas female honey  bees are born from fertilised  eggs. Because the unfertilised  egg  carries half the number  of chromosomes  as  compared to  the ertilised  egg, male honey  bees have half the number of chromosomes as compared to female honey bees.
