Given : A man 1.83m tall, stands at a distance of 14.8m away from the base of a tower. angle of elevation of the top of the tower is 63°.

To find : height of the tower.

Solution:

Let say height of tower  =  h m

Horizontal Distance = 14.8 m

Vertical Distance = height of tower - height of man

= h - 1.83 m

Tan (angle of elevation )  = Vertical Distance  / Horizontal Distance

=> Tan ( 63° )  = (h - 1.83 )/14.8

=> 1.96  = (h - 1.83 )/14.8

=>  29 = h  - 1.83

=> h = 29 + 1.83

=> h = 30.83

height of the tower = 30.83 m
