Answer:

2/7

Step-by-step explanation:

Let A be the event that husband is selected.

Let B be the event that wife is selected.

Given: P(A) = (1/7) and P(B) = (1/5).

∴ P'(A) = (1 - 1/7)

           = 6/7

∴ P'(B) = (1 - 1/5)

           = 4/5

Required probability = P[(A and not B) or (B and not A)]

                                   = P(A). P'(B) + P(B).P'(A)

                                   = (1/7 * 4/5) + (1/5 * 6/7)

                                   = (4/35) + (6/35)

                                   = 10/35

                                    = 2/7

Probability that one of them will be selected = (2/7).

Hope it helps!
