He bought 15 glass vessels.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let man bought the number of glass vessels = x

and the man sold glass vessels = y

then, the cost of glass vessels, y = \frac{600}{x}

when he broke 2 of them, then he sold each of the rest for Rs. 10 more than he had given for it, thereby gaining Rs. 50 on the whole.

According to the question,

(x-2) × (y+10) = 600+50   [putting the value of y]

(x-2) × (\frac{600}{x} + 10) = 650

(x-2) \frac{600}{x} + 10 (x-2) = 650

600 - \frac{1200}{x} + 10x - 20 = 650

- \frac{1200}{x} + 10x = 650 - 600 + 20

- \frac{1200}{x} + 10x = 70

- 1200 + 10x²  = 70x

10x² - 70x - 1200 = 0

x² - 7x - 120 = 0

x² - 15x + 8x - 120 = 0

x(x-15) + 8(x-15) = 0

(x-15) (x+8) = 0

(x - 15) = 0 or (x + 8) = 0

x = 15 or x = -8

Since the number of glass vessels can not be negative

Hence x = 15

He bought 15 glass vessels.
