Given data :

  • A man bought an old car and spent 20% of the cost on repairs.

  • Total cost of car including repairs was {unit} 1,20,000.

To find : cost price of the car ?

Solution :

Now, according to given,

→ Percentage repairing cost = 20 %

→ Total cost of car = {unit} 120000

{ Note : we take unit here, ₹ ( Rs ) also we can take {unit} = €, ¥, £, ¢, $ }

Hence,

→ Total cost of car = ₹ 120000

Let, reparing cost of car be x, now, to find reparing cost of the car,

→ {x/total cost} * 100 = repairing percentage

→ {x/120000} * 100 = 20

→ x/120000 = 20/100

→ x/120000 = 0.2

→ x = 0.2 * 120000

→ x = ₹ 24000

Hence, repairing cost of the car is ₹ 24000.

Now,

→ cost of car = total cost - repairing cost

→ cost of car = 120000 - 24000

→ cost of car = ₹ 96000

Answer : Hence, cost price of the car is ₹ 96000.
