Given : a man buy a mobilephone at discount of 15% and sold it for 14365. in the process he makes a profit of Rs 30%  

To Find :  The Discount

Solution:

Let say mobile price before discount = 1000x  Rs

Discount = (15/100)1000x = 150x  Rs

Cost price = 1000x - 150x  = 850 x Rs

30 % profit = (30/100)850x  =  255x  Rs

Selling price = 850x + 255x  = 1105x Rs

1105x =   14365

=> x  = 13

Hence discount = 150x  = 150 * 13  = Rs 1950

Discount was Rs 1950
