a man buys 1500kg of groundnut. the pods weigh 60% of the groundnut weight the pods are crushed and they yield the oil content of 27% of their weight while the rest of the material is treated once again for oil yielding 6% oil by weight. if instead of the pods the kernel where to be crushed then the 2% oil would be obtained. then what is the amount of oil that will be obtained from the kernel for the given quantity of groundnut? a.14 kgs b.12 kgs c.120 kgs d.16 kgs answer:

The weight of the pods :

60/100 × 1500 = 900

Weight of the kernel :

40/100 × 1500 = 600

From the total weight of the Kernel, the amount of oil extracted is 2% of the weight.

We therefore need 2% of 600kgs.

We get this as follows :

2/100 × 600

= 0.02 × 600 = 12

The amount of oil by weight from the kernel is 12 kgs.
