Let CP of one Pen = P and CP of one Book = B

20 P + 16 B = 360----------(i)

Now he sells Pen at 40% profit. So;

Profit on one Pen = 40% of P = 0.4 P

Therefore S.P. of Pen is P + 0.4 P = 1.4 P

Profit on one Book = 25% of B = 0.25 B

Therefore S.P. of Book is B + 0.25 B = 1.25 B

Overall profit = 120

So,

20 (1.4 P) + 16(1.25 B) = 360 + 120

28 P + 20 B = 480----------(ii)

Solving (i) and (ii)

P = 10 and B = 10

So, CP of Pen is 10
