Oranges bought = 6 dozens

At = Rs. 10.80

Rotten organes = 12

Rest were sold at = Every 5 at Rs. 1

\textsf{\underline{\underline{To find : }}}

Its Loss or Gain

\textsf{\underline{\underline{Solution :}}}

As 12 oranges (1 dozen) was rotten, 5 dozens of oranges are good.

Here :

  • Cost Price = Rs. 10.80
  • Selling Price = ??
  • Gain or Loss % = ??

\rule{300}{1.5}

\bigstar\:{\textbf{\small{\underline{Selling Price of the Oranges -}}}}

As given in the question, every 5 oranges were sold as Rs. 1.

Selling Price of each orange = Rs.\sf{\dfrac{1}{5}}

\rule{300}{1.5}

\bigstar\:{\textbf{\small{\underline{Selling Price of all the oranges =}}}}

 = \sf{ \frac{1}{5} \: of \: 60} \\  \\  = \sf{ \frac{1}{5} \times 60} \\  \\  = \sf1 \times 12 \\  \\  = \sf{12}

Selling Price of all the oranges = Rs. 12

12 > 10.80

Selling Price > Cost Price

\therefore It's a Gain !

\rule{300}{1.5}

\bigstar\:{\textbf{\small{\underline{Gain \%:}}}}

\sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\% =  \frac{SP - CP}{CP} \times 100} \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\%  =  \frac{12 - 10.80}{10.80} \times 100} \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\%  = \frac{1.2}{10.80} \times 100} \\ \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\%  =  \frac{120}{10.80}} \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\%  =  \frac{120 \times 10}{10.8 \times 10}} \\  \\ \sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\%  =  \frac{1200}{108}} \\  \\  \sf{\longrightarrow} \: {Gain\%  = 11.11\%}

\therefore The Gain % of man is 11.11 %
