Let the total no of TV sets he bought be x

Total cost of x TV sets =Rs 42,000

So, cost of each TV set =
 \frac{42000}{x}

According to question:-

 \frac{42000}{x + 1} = \frac{42000}{x} - 100
 \frac{42000}{x } - \frac{42000}{x + 1} = 100 \\ \\ \\42000( \frac{1}{x} - \frac{1}{x + 1} ) = 100 \\ \\ \frac{1}{x} - \frac{1}{x + 1} = \frac{1}{420} \\ \frac{1}{ {x}^{2} + x} = \frac{1}{420} \\ \\ {x}^{2} + x - 420 = 0 \\ \\ {x}^{2} + 21x - 20x - 420 = 0 \\ \\ (x - 20)(x + 21) = 0 \\ \\ \\ \\
so the value of x=. 20, not 21 because no of tv sets can't be negative.

So he bought 20 TV sets

Thanks
