So, z × 5 = x/2
or, z = x/10
From this we can write
y + z = 9
or, x/8 + x/10 = 9
or, (10x + 8x)/80 = 9
or, 18x = 80 × 9
or, 2x = 80
or, x = 40 km.
So the length of the total journey is 40 km.
