A man can row 5km upstream and 3km downstream in 35 hours.Also he can row 2km upstream and 4km down stream in 28 hours.Find the speed of man in still water

Hey dear,

● Answer -
v = 9/40 km/hr

● Explaination -
Let x and y be speed of man upstream and downstream.
5/x + 3/y = 35 ...(1)
2/x + 4/y = 28 ...(2)

Solving (1) & (2),
x = 1/4 km/hr
y = 1/5 km/hr

Speed of man in still water -
v = (x+y)/2
v = (1/4 + 1/5) / 2
v = 9/40 km/hr

Therefore, speed of man in still water is 9/40 km/hr.
