The speed of current will be 14/3 kmph

Explanation :

Let the speed of the current = s

Speed of man in still water = 9 1/3 = 28/3 kmph

=> speed in upstream = 28/3 - s

speed in downstream = 28/3 + s

we know that speed = distance/time

=> speed ∝ 1/time

=> speed in downstream/speed in upstream = time in upstream/time in downstream

=> (28/3 + s)/(28/3-s) = 3

=> 28/3+s = 28 - 3s

=> 4s = 28 - 28/3 = 56/3

=> s = 14/3

Hence the speed of current will be 14/3 kmph
