A man can row upstream at 7 kmph and downstream at 10 kmph. Find man's rate in still water and the rate of current?

Answer:-

Let rate in still water = x

Let the rate of current = y

Rate upstream = Rate in still water - Rate of current = x - y

Rate downstream = Rate of still water + Rate of current = x + y

x - y = 7

x + y = 10

Adding both equations, 2x = 17 x = 8.5 Substitute x, 8.5 + y = 10

y=10-8.5 = 1.5
