A man can swim downstream at 12 kmph and upsteram at 6 kmph. Find the speed of the man in still water and the water current respectively (in kmph)

Let the speed of man be xkm/h in still water and boat be y km/h.

speed downstream= x+y=12 -(i)

speed upstream= x-y = 6 -(ii)

By solving Both the eqns.

we get,

2x=18

x=9.

putting x value in (i)eqn. we get,

y=3

so speed of man in still water= 9km/h

and speed of water is 3 km/h
