Total distance covered by the man = 42 miles

Let the distance travelled by the man via bus be = (x) miles

∴ Distance travelled by car = (2x) miles

& Distance travelled by train = (3x) miles

According to the Question,

x + 2x + 3x = 42

⟹ 6x = 42

⟹ x = 42/6

x = 7

Distance travelled by:-

  • bus = 7 miles,
  • car = 2 × 7 = 14 miles, &
  • train = 3 × 7 = 21 miles.
