let 2x be the distance the man travels. therefore
x/40+x/60=85x/120=8x/24=8x=24*8=192.
but the distance he travelled was 2x. hence he trvalled 2*192=384 kms.

The correct answer is 384 km because the length of the journey is 384 km.

Given:

  • A man completes a journey in 8 hours
  • Half the distance covered by him = 40 km/hr
  • rest distance in 60 km/hr

To Find:

The length of the journey

Solution:

Let's consider 2x as the length of the journey.

\frac{x}{40} + \frac{x}{60} = 8

\frac{3x + 2x}{120} = 8

3x + 2x = 8 x 120

5x = 960

x = \frac{960}{5}

x = 192

the length of the journey is 2x

= 192 x 2

= 384

Hence,  the correct answer is 384 km.
