Answer:

Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time

Total Distance = 40 km

Total Time = T1 + T2 + T3 + T4

Time = Distance / Speed → T1 = 10/10 = 1 hr, T2 = 10/20 = 1/2 hr, T3 = 10/30 = 1/3 hr, T4 = 10/40 = 1/4 hr

T = T1 + T2 + T3 + T4 = 1 + 1/2 + 1/3 + 1/4 = 25/12 hr = 2 hr 5 min

Average Speed = 40 km / 25/12 hr = 19.2 km/h

The average speed of the man is 19.2 kilometres per hour.
