A man covers a distance of 2 km from his home to the shop and returned home sometime through the same path. what is the distance and displacement of the man when he returned to home.​

We know that, Distance is the numeric length or measurement taken from two points.

We are given ;

Distance from Home to shop = 2 km.              ......(i)

Distance from Shop to Home = 2 km.              ......(ii)

Total Distance for his journey is = (Distance from Home to shop) + (Distance from Shop to Home)

⇒ 2 + 2 km = 4 km

We know that, Displacement is a vector whose length is the shortest distance from the initial to the final position

⇒ But as here the initial point is same as final point, i.e., Home of the man, Therefore,

Displacement here will be equal to 0.
