The soup is to be given in cylindrical bowls of radius 7cm and height of the soup in the bowl is 4cm.

To find:

How much soup (in litres) has to be prepared?  

Solution:

No. of children in the orphanage = 250

The dimensions of the cylindrical bowls:

Radius, r = 7 cm

Height, h = 4 cm

∴ The volume of each cylindrical bowl is,

= $\pi r^2 h$

= $\frac{22}{7} \times 7^2 \times 4$

= $\frac{22}{7} \times 49 \times 4$

= $616 \:cm^3$

The quantity of soup in 1 bowl is equal to the volume of 1 cylindrical soup bowl.

∴ The quantity of soup that has to be prepared for 250 children is,

= $250 \times [Volume \:of\:1\: bowl]$

= $250 \times 616$

= $154000 \:cm^3$

we know → $1 \:cm = \frac{1}{1000} \:litres$

= $\bold{154\:litres }$

Thus, 154 litres of soup has to be prepared by the man.
