The man was initially able to dig the soil easily, as the top most layer of soil is usually loose and not too dense. As we dig deeper, the soil starts becoming denser and more tight because of the pressure of the layers above it. Due to this the man found it difficult to dig deeper after digging 5 feet of the soil.
