As tree are exist on the surface and there root can go not so deeper but the area of earth surface that came into contact of nature is not so deeper and the upper surface of eath became loosen due to roots, and some external forceses and thus, easy to dig but the inner surface of earth are not came into contact of external force so,it is harder to dig it as compared to upper surface because it is made with rock.
