Correct Question :- A man divided his property among his 3 sons and his wife .He gave 1/5 of the whole to his first son, 1/3 of remainder to his second son and 3/8 of the remainder to his third son and the remainder Rs.45000 to his wife . find the value of his property. ?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, total property of the man was Rs.120 . ( LCM of 3 , 5 and 8 , in order to make calculation easy.)

So,

→ first son got (1/5) of the whole property = (1/5) of 120 = Rs.24 .

Than

→ Remaining Property left after giving to first son = 120 - 24 = Rs.96 .

Now,

→ second son got (1/3) of the remaining property = (1/3) of 96 = Rs.32 .

Than

→ Remaining Property left after giving to second son = 120 - 32 = Rs.64 .

Now,

→ Third son got (3/8) of the remaining property = (3/8) of 64 = Rs.24 .

Than

→ Remaining Property left after giving to third son = 64 - 24 = Rs.40 .

Now, it has been said that, he gave the remaining property to his wife , who received Rs.45000 .

Therefore,

40 ------------------ 45000

→ 1 -------------------- (45000/40) = 1125

→ 120(Total Property) ----------- 1125 * 120 = Rs.1,35,000 (Ans.)

Hence, The value of his property is Rs.1,35,000 .
