let \:  \:  \\  \\ x =  \:  \: distance \:  \: of \:  \: good \:  \: surface \\  \\ 48 - x = bad \:  \:  \: surface \\  \\ by \:  \: formula \\  \\ speed \:  =  \frac{distance}{time}  \\  \\ s =  \frac{d}{t}  \\  \\  \frac{x}{72}  +  \frac{48 - x}{48}  =  \frac{45}{60}  \\  \\  \frac{x}{72}  +  \frac{48 - x}{48}  =  \frac{3}{4}  \\  \\ lcm = 288 \\  \\ hence \\  \\ 4x + 6(48 - x) = 216 \\  \\ 4x + 288 - 6x = 216 \\  \\  - 2x = 216 - 288 \\  \\  - 2x =  - 72 \\  \\ x =  \frac{72}{2}  \\  \\ x = 36 \:  \:  \: ...good \:  \:  \: road  \\  \\ 48 - x = 48 - 36 \\ \:  \:  \:  \:  \:    \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  = 12 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: .. bad \:  \:  \: road \:
