Step-by-step explanation:

Given

A man drives his car with uniform speed from A to the place B which is 150 km away . Again he returns to the place A by increasing the speed of the car 10 km/hr there by reached 30 min earlier then the taken in the forward journey. Find the total time taken by him in forward journey?

Distance = 150 km

Let the original speed be x

Now increased speed will be x + 10

Now time = 150 / x

                = 150 / x + 10

Now according to question we get

150 / x – 150 / (x + 10) = 1/2

150 x + 1500 – 150 x / x(x + 10) = 1/2

3000 = x(x + 10)

So x^2 + 10 x – 3000 = 0

So x^2 + 60 x – 50 x – 3000 = 0

So x (x + 60) – 50 (x + 60) = 0

So (x + 60) (x – 50) = 0

Or x = 50

Now original speed will be 50 km /hr and increased speed will be (50 + 10) = 60 km/hr

Also time will be 150 / 50 = 3 hours

New time will be 150/60 = 2.5 hours

So total time taken will be 5.5 hours
