Answer:

The distance covered is 20 km.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A man driving a scooter at 30 kmph reaches his destination 7 minutes late to  an appointment. If he had drive at 40 kmph he would have reached his destination 3 minutes before time.

To find : His destination?

Solution :

Let the time taken be 't'.

Distance covered is 'x'.

A man driving a scooter at 30 kmph reaches his destination 7 minutes late to  an appointment.

The time taken is \frac{t+7}{60} hour.

Speed is 30 kmph.

Distance covered is D=S\times T

x=30\times \frac{t+7}{60}

x=\frac{t+7}{2} .....(1)

If he had drive at 40 kmph he would have reached his destination 3 minutes before time.

The time taken is \frac{t-3}{60} hour.

Speed is 40 kmph.

Distance covered is D=S\times T

x=40\times \frac{t-3}{60}

x=\frac{2(t-3)}{3}

x=\frac{2t-6}{3} ......(2)

The distance covered is same so equate (1) and (2),

So, \frac{t+7}{2}=\frac{2t-6}{3}

3(t+7)=2(2t-6)

3t+21=4t-12

4t-3t=21+12

t=33

Substitute the value of t in equation (1),

x=\frac{33+7}{2}

x=\frac{40}{2}

x=20

Therefore, The distance covered is 20 km.
