A man driving his moped at 24kmph reaches his destination 5minutes late to an appointment if he had driven at 3kmph he would have reached his 4minutes before time how far is his destination

WilsonChong: How can the man get to his destination earlier if he travels even slower (3kmph<24kmph)? Have I mistaken anything?

Answer:

Assuming you mean 30kmph instead of 3kmph:

Let t be the time taken for a punctual arrival to his appointment in hours, d be the distance in km. Therefore:

d=24km/h*(t+5/60)

d=30km/h*(t-4/60)

Solving the above system of linear equations gives:

d=18km, t=2/3 hours

∴18km is how far his destination is

Hope this helps :)
