Okay so first we must realise that the percentages are NOT all upon the original sum. The 35% and 25% are upon the original sum but the 50% is 50% from the remaining after we have subtracted the 25% and 35%.

So let's start.

25+35=60
100-60=40

We know that the man keeps 50% of the remaining and that that is equal to 2000.

So we know that 50% of the original 40% is 2000

So, 100% of the remaining 40% is 2000x2=4000.

We now know that 40% of the original sum is 4000.

Since we want to know how much 100% is equal to, we divide 100 by 40 to work out the 'scale factor' and thus work out by how much we have to multiply the money.

100/40=2.5

So, 4000x2.5=10000

His total original sum was rs 10,000!
