Hi ,

Draw a rough diagram according to the given data in the problem,

we get a right angled triangle ,

distance traveled towards North = 24 m

distance traveled towards East = 10 m

 distance from the starting point =Joining the to end points

                                                    = Hypotenuse of the right triangle

using Pythagoras Theorem ,

( Hypotenuse )² = ( base )² + ( height )²

                          = ( 10 )² + ( 24 )²

                          = 100 + 576

                          = 676

                          = ( 26 )²

Now required distance from starting point = √ ( Hypotenuse )²

                                                                   = √(26)²

                                                                   = 26 m

I hope this is useful to you.
