a man goes 10m towards north, then 20m towards east then displacement is

ishanaghosh: Going towards north and then east the man's direction changes perpendicularly. We know, displacement is the shortest distance between initial and final positions. So, by joining those positions we get a right angled triangle. Now by Pythagorean theorem, displacement=√(10^2 + 20^2) =√500=10√5 m. This is the reqd. displacement.
ishanaghosh: Hope it helps you

Hi there....

His displacement is 10j + 20i in unit vector notation.

ishanaghosh: Vector notation i don't know but the sum can be done by using Pythagorean theorem very easily and which I have done in detail section

10+20=30 os displacement

ishanaghosh: Displacement is asked and not distance
